truck wont start, starter wont turn
I have a 2006 3.0 ranger that wont turn over. These are the symptoms.
• battery low, had it charged and tested- battery is good
• clicking noise coming from fuse box, checked all fuses, all are fine
• checked all fuses in engine compartment, all are fine.
• theft light keeps flashing on dash, when key is inserted and turned to ON position; nothing on dash light up.
• had aftermarket door locks installed over two years ago, never had any problems (thought that might have something to do with it) disconnected the entire door lock system since I’ve been wanting to get something better. Still vehicle will not turn over.
Anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Re: truck wont start, starter wont turn
The clicking noise coming from the power distrobution box is the starter relay chattering. This happens due to low voltage. This happens when:
1) The battery is dead, and the load of the starter motor pulls the voltage down low enough to make the relay chatter.
2) The battery may be fine but the starter is jammed and can't turn. The massive electrical load of the jammed starter causes the same thing to happen as #1 above. Could also be the engine is seized, but I don't think that just mysteriously happened overnight.
Suggest you disconnect the starter and see if the relay stops chattering. And while you're at it, bring it in to be tested at the autoparts shop. If the starter is fine, we'll investigate further.

Re: truck wont start, starter wont turn
I just took the starter off on Saturday, had that checked at autozone and double checked at Checker both places told me it was fine. Battery cables are both fine, checked all fuses again- all work fine. Any Suggestions. thanks.

Have you tried a different battery, or jumpstarting it? I know they tested it and said it was fine, but we're running out of plausible solutions.

Re: truck wont start, starter wont turn
Once Problem solved, I noticed that dash lighted partially when I jiggled ignition switch, took cover off, one of the ignition wires going into this little circuit box (underneath ignition switch) the wire casing was exposed. Dont know how that happened. Applied electrical tape to casing problem solved, I guess wire was grounding out. thanks for the help.

Re: truck wont start, starter wont turn
Have you checked to see that the solenoid isn't dead? When you turn the key to the "ON" position, not to the start (where the engine should crank), listen for a click. if not, it sounds like you have a problem with the solenoid.
