Exclamation Starter Relay/ Ignition Switch 50 amp blows on bumpy road....

As title says went thru like 4 before turning back...don't see why it's blowing... I will have to double check cause I cant seem to remember if its the i/p or the Ignition Switch, Starter Relay...but I do know its one of those two haha...sorry! If it helps I lose power completely, if I turn key nothing happens but I can shift. And lights and such work.

Update...I looked around some can't see any bad wires or loose wires...when it blows the truck dies completely, it drives fine on pavement and what not, it was just when I hit some washboard roads. I assume its a loose wire or frayed but I can't seem to find it...Any other ideas? I will look more tomorrow its 11PM here, I was out all day trying to go camping and I didn't get too and I'm SPENT!

Update so I went out and checked it out some more this morning at it is the starter relay/ignition switch fuse. So could this mean my starter is going bad? I still did not see any bad wires or anything I'm going to try to pull the starter and go get it tested.

Well, I pulled the starter it looked fine until I pulled the last wire off, and metal chunks came out...pretty sure that was the issue, replaced starter...now I need to go find some washboard roads and test it out...

yeah, a few bits and pieces of metal, it was breaking off from where the wire was connected to the starter

I don't think this is going to to fix your problem at all. Think about it. How could a faulty starter be causing your fuse to pop, when the starer is not connected to the circuit unless the key is turned to start. Something else is wrong causing this issue.

As for what the issue is... I have no idea. Half the truck runs off that circuit.

I don't think you read the other updates and such...the fuse was not the I/P Fuse Relay it was the Ignition Switch, Starter Relay I got the spots mixed up when first posting I tried to change the title it changed on the every first post but not the rest or on the main page...but there was metal pieces that cause an arc that popped that fuse, I actually made it pop with the old starter before I got a new one...I probably in turn did not need a need a new starter, but my dad told me to go ahead and get one since the one I had was 11 years old...but as the original issue of the fuse popping on the washboard road I'm pretty sure the metal cause the arc was the issue...I no longer have metal or arcing issues as I can tell...I have not been on a washboard road yet, I plan to this week though so I will keep you informed.

I read it. And I don't see where anything you reported has any bearing on your issue. You said you're having an issue where hitting bumps is causing something to short and pop a fuse. A short in the starter wires after the starter relay will not cause that. That circuit is only energized when the key is turned to start.

So the metal touching and arching would not cause that to pop? Well it did when I tried it at my house, so I don't know what to say I guess I will find out this week when I go on a washboard road..

Loose metal hitting the large primary power to the starter would cause a short since that is always energized. That short could pull the voltage down and stall the tuck. But there is no fuse on that to pop. That is direct from the battery.

If the loose metal was hitting the smaller wire to the the starter, that wire is only energized when the key is turned to start. A short on that could definitely pop the fuse you're talking about. But it would only pop the fuse when the key is turned to start.

So I guess I'm confused about what is actually happening cause you keep modifying the situation and leaving out some key details. What fuse was popping and when.

I'm not going to argue with you about this, I'm not changing anything, I was confused about the fuse, I stated that, and the only reason things changed was cause when I was trying to figure out what was wrong, its what I saw. I could be completely wrong. But as for now the truck is running, I did go over some small bumps and such nothing as washboardy that I was on. But nothing happened, I just need to go on a washboard road and see.
