1990 ranger 2.3l 5speed fuel pump etc.

it started with i came out of work and the truck would turn over but would start , check if i was getting spark yes i was. So it was 4am so had to be back to work in 12hours so i figured i would get some starter fluid and see if it would start which it did the died so figured that had a fuel problem so check fuel pump and was bad when tested it on battery so figured would get a new one and try it the next day. got new one from junkyard tested it and put it in but did not test it because had to go into work. came out after work to test and put in tank back. which it started raining . tested it and would not turn over so figured that battery was dead and jumped it still nothing then a co worker said give me a screw driver and tried the cylinoid put nothing. so figured i wait till day light and no rain then found out that we jumping backwards and blew a couple of fuses under the hood so replaced them and tried a different battery still nothing i get lights and dash just no turning over

hit the gas tank with a rubber mallet or something soft as to not dent the tank...should work.
