Default i dont think it can be fixed

i have a 1988 ford ranger 2.9, a year or so ago the headlights started acting funny. {it is a pull style switch} when pulling the switch all the way out the headlights would come on but the dash lights and running lights would remain off. i replaced the switch just to have the same problem, i thought bad switch so i replaced it again aswell as the skewer rod. i noticed a burnt spot on the wiring harness, put it all back together, to STILL have the same problem. headlights on when switch is out but no dash or running lights. i noticed that if i pushed the switch in just a few millimeters everything would work like it was supposed to, the headlights, dashlights, and the tail/running lights. recently {past couple days} the headlights stopped coming on, but if i push the switch in, the dash and tail/running lights come on. there are no blown fuses, the lights are not blown. i also thought i noticed once or twice, when turning my headlights on they looked like they were charging up for a second then BAM! full brightness. i am VERY VERY stumped and aggravated at the situation and would love any suggestions thanks, matt.
