Default Power Door locks, locking by themselves.

Hi, well I went to leave this morning, started the truck( 06 Ranger XLT 4x4 ext cab 4.0 SOHC 5 speed man) and forgot something so I had to run in the house. came back trucks running and both doors are locked. used the key fob and got in and left. Stopped again and got out of the truck, doors was locked again when I went to get back in, luckily I had left the window down. So now I have noticed they are locking whenever I pull the outside door handle on the driver side and just start to open the door. It wont do it when shutting just opening. Right now I have just pulled the power door lock fuse, but I would like to know where and what to start looking at to fix it. The doors lock and unlock fine with the key and the key fob. Ive searched but haven't seen anyone else with this particular problem. Thanks in advance.

2008 ranger XLT 3.0 supercab 2WD

79,000 miles

I have the exact same problem, both doors lock when I open the drivers side. not the passenger side. It locks the instant the dome light illuminates. So my guess is when the drivers door ajar switch closes (which also illums the dome) its maybe grounding out the locking actuator? The strange part it, I have seen pictures of a locking actuator and they are all plastic. So it might be the locking relay. I can hear the locking and unlocking relays clicking behind the fuse box (BJB) down on the passenger floor, but cant find them. Can you tell me if you fixed yours? Thanks

anyone have a wiring diagram for a 2008 ranger XLT 3.0 supercab 2WD that covers the door locks?

Ok, here is what I found. on the Fuse Box down at the passenger floor, I took off the door, and to get better access I took off the whole plastic trim. EZ just pull the plastic rivet and start too wiggle it out. I could make the doors lock by wiggling wires down there. so the problem was down there. There are 4 quick release connectors that go to that SJB Fuse box. To remove just grab the tan lever and pull while wiggling the body of the connector. I found moderate corrosion on two pins under one of them. Had to use my readers to catch it. It was the connector second one up from the bottom. I removed the corrosion and its working. I hope that was it!! I will report back if not. I wanted to point people to this corrosion because if most people are like me, since the problem was happening on the driver door, might think it was in the door! Hope I got it fixed, sucks to have that system locking you out all the time!

Oh yea, there was three occurrences where the doors locked when I turned on the headlights also! First one I thought I was hearing things, but not after three.

Thanks, ctbale, you saved me a lot of time.

I had the exact same weird problem: doors would lock as soon as I unlatched the driver's side door (it was actually the dome light making it happen, as you wrote). After taking my driver's side door panel apart and finding nothing wrong, I googled it and found your fix. What you described worked for me. I made a video of the procedure for anyone else who encounters this:

http://youtu.be/Ci5ULCY1qMI

I didn't find any obvious corrosion, but there was a some dirt and dust that I blew out. Removing and reinstalling the connector seemed to do the trick.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing your fix!

Nice, the above video fixed my exact same issue. I had some corrosion on a few pins of that connector, but used a contact cleaner, and is all good now.

Thanks for that, as I would have never guessed to look at that connector

Glad I found this thread regarding the driver side door locking when the handle is lifted. I have a '04 2wd Ranger with the same problem and the attached video helped me to fix it. I found a bit of moisture in the connector and some corrosion on a couple of the pins. Thanks all
