I have a Ranger 4.0 V6 and I am intrigued by a strange noise ... sound ... wheezing ... a funny noise my truck makes when you put the ignition on position, without hitting start.
We all know and are accustomed to listen, when we turned the key connecting the electrical system, that noise from the fuel pump relay. What happens in mine and that is very interesting, is that besides the sound of the pump relay (later to normally) is making a squeaking ... like a weird noise like a Hard Disk when computer is running ... like triiiiiiririiii ... triiiiiriiiriii ... like a relay crossed or shorted. When I turn off the key the sound stop, returning to again when I put the key in on position.
I got more or less determine that the noise comes from the dash of RANGER, something close to the area behind the CD radio, more to the right between the vents on the dashboard and that the compartment where the passenger airbag will (mine has no airbag) .
Just to explain, the truck goes perfectly, without gaps or apparent problems. All electrical work well and never noticed any defect in the electrical system.
I would like help from friends to know if this is normal.
