Remove the security start up thing?
My buddies Ranger has this thing where you have to press the button on this little clicker to be able to start it and half the time it don't work so we have to wait 10 minutes while he does the over-ride thing. How can we remove this?
EDIT: It's an '03 Edge Ranger Supercab if that helps.

Doesn't sound like a factory thing.

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
Is he making payments on it, or did he at one time? Sometimes car companies put those on so that if a person falls behind on payments or is late the car won't start without them programming it to. They literally can take over your vehicle and make it so you can not drive it if you don't make a payment. They do this to avoid having the expense of trying to hunt you down for a repo if you don't make a payment or contact them about non payment.
If he's still paying on it and the company he pays IS that way...then there's his answer. If he DID pay it off there's a chance the company didn't release the programming for him.
By the way, they do give you 24 hours after they've shut your vehicle off to reprogram it ONE time until you make a payment and then they shut if off again.

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
It's paid for, it was actually a factory option. The people he bought it from, chose it for some reason. Can anyone help?

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
Oh ok, disregard my ramblings then!! Sounds more like they opted for it so that no one would steal it. Totally different concept. My bad!

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
Reach in, find some wires, and PULL! (Well, it might work!) Sorry, in reality I can't help you, but hopefully someone else will chime in to help you out.

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
Is the clicker thing a key fob with the lock and unlock buttons?
Only factory anti-theft options I know of are Passive anti-theft (chip in the key) and a panic alarm that's integrated into the key fob (clicker thingy.)
If it's separate it's not factory and you'll need to do some research and find out where the module that this clicker thingy communicates with is located, what circuit it controls and what the normal factory circuit layout is without this clicker thingy module.

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
It is not on the key. But I know it is factory because I've gone to the Ford dealership and talked to them about it. They told me that it would cost a bit to get it taken off.

Definately not factory. Maybe the dealer installed it as some bullshit price jacker-upper option. Does it have any kind of name or brand or anything on it?

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
Bah, the best way to go about it is find a basic car starter, and then install a bypass module. That way you keep the anti-theft device and should you have problems starting, use the remote starter.
If the truck is automatic it'll work everytime. If it's manual you'll have to find an old remote starter model since the new ones require you pre-program them before every use, retarded.

Re: Remove the security start up thing?
I'll try sometime this week to check out the starter. I have no idea if it's a module inside the truck or anything. I just know I we have to over-ride it all the damn time because the clicker doesn't work anymore and the over-ride takes about 4 minutes.
