Well, picked up the truck and got the first hand info... The pigtail at the altanator had ht a wire in it that was damaged. Would pass current sometimes, but apparantly many strands were broken creating a power drop. (not very technical here) Regardless, the pigtail was removed and replace, and battery light is out. Also discovered the problem with my ABS light coming on was due to a pressure switch adjacent to the master cylinder under the hood. I was told the item was a recall from the factory years ago due to short and fire problems, just that mine was never replaced. This will happen on Thursday. For now the ABS light is off, it sure is nice to drive aroudn without a buch of warning lights flickering all the time. Hope this paragraph makes more sense than the last one I published.

Passing current sometimes makes much more sense. There is NO WAY the alternator can generate power with that wire grounded all the time. When it was shorted, the light would come on and the alternator will do nothing. When it wasn't grounded, everything would work fine. It can't do both at once.

The ABS thing, yea I guess you lucked out with the whole fire thing huh?

My niebors truck was fickering batt light syndrom.and it was frying regulators at an alarming rate.wiring harness between the alt and plug going into the wiring harness.did a continuity check at the regulator plug got intermittant ground between the charging field wires and the hot field wires.the plug where harnesses met was shot.Cut it off put in new plug and harness to the alt.Problem solved. It was hammered dirty and shorting between the connections.
