Default Lights Switch Knob

Hi Everyone!

I have been changing my Lights Switch Knob (next to dim wheel) in order to have light again for three little light drawings (off, quarter & low) but it results that every time that I add a new one that it's in working condition and just after turn on the engine, this little bulb dies.

Any ideas what could be?

P.S.
Knob still in working condition but with no light in the bulb.

Thank!

It's odd that the bulbs keep burning out instantly... are you sure you've got 12v bulbs?

I've had dozens of headlight switches & 98% of the bulbs are shot when I get them... that's why I mod them with high output led's.

Drop me a PM if you'd like one of my LED conversions for the headlight/4x4/fog switches.

No I still have the one buggman modded for me and sent him back the oem one from my switch so he could use it to mod for someone else. I love the one he modded for me.

Sorry maybe I did not explain well when I say that I swap the knob, I change the whole Switch not only the knob that can be pulled out from outside.

What I do is to take out the down part of dash, unscrew the switch and swap from another one, then I turn on the lights and this little bulb lights up, but when I turn the engine on the bulb burns.

So could be a fuse or I don't know a cable or something else?

Maybe a power surge that overwhelms the voltage of the bulb. Your could try getting a modded light that has a led bulb in it and try that one. Or u could got to radioshack buy a cheap led and resistor before putting the money up for the good led.

Love them. Will probably be getting another ohc panel for the old ladies exploder. She wants to steal mine. Lol. As soon as I get the money I'm gonna get the dome light LEDs and a third brake light from you.

If the bulbs you put in blow as soon as the truck turns on, they're likely getting too much voltage from the alternator, thus blowing the bulbs every time. Since they work with the truck OFF, they're only seeing whatever voltage the battery has; probably 11.5v-12.5v.

They're probably only rated UP TO 12v, but when the truck starts they get the full 14v+ and simply blow out. I'd bet you could install 100 of them & they'd all blow within a minute of the truck starting.

Honestly, you can save yourself all the hassle & trouble of removing the dash again & again for a $10.00 led mod

I know there are other people who do a "similar led mod" to mine, but I have no experience with them myself.
I've never had a single complaint or issue with mine though.
