Default Turn signal shuts down cruise control

A few years ago the cruise control stopped working whenever I engaged the turn signal and the emergency flashers stopped working.

I replaced the muti-switch which fixed the flasher problem but I still have the turn signal/cruise problem.

Any ideas?

The cruise works fine until the blinker is switched on. Then it shuts off just the current setting. I can press resume and the cruise will reactivate.

has any fancy rewiring been done on your vehicle's taillights? the cruise control system disengages when it senses current flow in the brake light circuit...

Brian I think there is actually two switches on the brake pedal. One for the brake lights and one for the CC. I haven't been down there in a long time so I could be thinking of something else but I'm pretty sure.

However with that said and despite my recollection, your suggestion is the only thing that would make sense. The brake and clutch (if equipped) are the only inputs that pause the CC and allow you to resume. However I don't think it would sense current, it would just use the simple +12v on the circuit as a trigger. If it used current sensing, then the CC would never disengage if the brake lights were burned out. Seems like a bad idea if they actually did that.

Anyway, it would take some seriously funky rewiring to make that happen. If its all stock, I'm at a loss for this one.

could be right... it's been a while since I've looked at the wiring diagram. in any case, I cannot think of a real world scenario where you'd want the cruise control to remain engaged if you were signalling a turn, either...

My Ranger is a automatic and it's still stock. The only thing different about the tail lights is I replaced the bulbs with LED version. The kind that mimic the same connector as the original bulbs.

Yesterday while doing some highway driving I had the cc cut out while traveling 70mph and it wouldn't re-engange. I turned on then off a turn signal and tried again and the cc engaged.

I agree with the potential of something triggering the brake switch or something similar. when did you replace the tail light bulbs? jw. they just connected to the existing setup thought right? no modding required?

How about this one. Does this happen all the time, or only when you have the parking or headlights on too?

It's been a while but I thought I would add that now my Cruise doesn't work at all. I will check out the break switch as suggested.

It turns out it is working as before, but sometimes when the headlights are on it does not work at all. With the headlights on the cruise will work then just shut off for no apparent reason.

Thats actually the exact reason they added that designated switch for cruise control.
