Hi i have a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT and the dome light won't shut off. I tried to used wd40 on the door jam but im not entirely sure i know where the door jam is. anyways i tried that and it worked for maybe 5 minutes and then i opened the door and shut it and it wouldn't shut off. anyone know how to fix this?

shoot the WD-40 into the door latch, open and close the door a few times to work it in.

thats exactly what i did and its still wont work right. i have one side bulb in and the only way it will shut off is sliding the switch half way to the other side

sounds like a faulty switch (possibly in the door or in the light itself) or a short to ground somewhere. if a short to ground exists after the load (in this case the light bulb) the load will always be on. That being said with a wiring diagram we could determine if that is the case by looking to see what else (if anything) runs off the same circuit.

edit: i just read your post again to take a look at what year truck you have. I will try and pull the wiring diagram right now and see what we are working with.

wiring diagram for your truck. find the one that says it is the courtesy lights/lamps. you can follow the path of the electricity thru the lights. take a minute to review that and we can go from there.
