Default Control Modules/Chips

What are the benefits of modules and chips? Are there any negative effects of having chips? Do they affect fuel economy

Chips are old news. Get a programmer (aka tuner). You can plug it in, program whatever new settings you want, and change it down the road. Or put it back to stock for inspections and stuff. Several people on the ranger forums are dealers and have custom really nice ranger specific tunes.

Programmers and chips all cost several hundred dollars. You will never make that up in any very small MPG gains if you even get any. So don't do this looking for a way to save money. It's for performance, not savings.

If something goes haywire with the chips you are screwed. With the tuner it is always reversable.

If it does not plug into the OBD port under the dash stay away from it.

ok. so for example, ima be gettin a 89 f150. i dont think those had the obd plugs. so if i hooked up a venom control module, that wouldnt be a good one to use since it most likely wouldnt hook to the obd port
