Post Want to replace viper alarm with viper alarm

I have the 5701 Viper alarm with remote start. Is there anyway I can upgrade that alarm system with another Viper one and yet still use the same wiring and everything, like a plug and play type thing/direct swap? Just checking interest to see if it can be done. If not, oh well lol. Thanks

Most viper alarms or dei brands use basically the same plugs. Look on the back of the main unit (brain) it should show all the wire colors and where they go. DEI uses the same color wires for each input output. Therefor, if the plugs are not the same you should be able to just match wire colors and call it a day.

Sweetness thanks! Yeah i don't know what's wrong with it. I have been having trouble with the alarm horn; went through three. Probably because of rain going up inside it. But I think the horn needs to be wired all the way from the beginning. If not, it causes problems? Again, I don't know. But I'm thinking just replace the brain with a new brain and see what's up. But I don't know. Might just take it back to the shop and let them figure it out.

as far as horns go, yeh they go out. nothing odd about that...mainly vibration, heat, and water are the cause. the wire to the horn should be hooked up straight to the alarm brain. usually a brown wire.

You can probably add remote start and the main harness will plug into your new brain. that should take care of ignition and constant power, along with parking lights, locks etc. but the new brain will have a few more wires. one of the more in depth hook ups you will have to do is cutting the starter wire and hooking up the harness to that. it keeps you from cranking the starter when its already running. you will also have to hook up a brake wire. usually there is a wire behind the brake that you tap into. this is so if someone tries to get in your car and go, as soon as they push in the brake to put it in drive, it will die.

you also will have a tachometer wire which helps the brain determine when the car has started. you'll need a wiring diagram or just google your truck to find it. usually it can be found behind the instrument cluster. worse case you can get it from under the hood.

but its definetly something you can do, just be patient!

Viper alarms come with a lifetime warranty. Find a dei or viper dealer and they should be able to send it in and get a new one for you. My old job that's how it worked. It may take a little persuasion to to get the place to actually do it though.

----------

If you need wiring color charts just go to bulldogsecurity.com. They have it for all cars right on there website. I would never put their alarm in my car but there wiring charts never did me wrong.

Thanks for that write up but I already have the alarm installed and everything. Works fine I guess. Reason why I ask this question is because My alarm will trip when nothing happens and when it does, my remote doesn't tell me. Yet, when I have the alarm horn unplugged and the alarm goes off, it will tell me on the remote. So I might just go back to the shop where they installed it and get it fixed.

Thanks for that info. But unfortunately, I bought my Viper alarm at a very good deal off eBay and it only came with a one year warranty (which is already up). So like I said above, I might just go ahead and take it back to the shop where it was installed and get it fix.
