Re: Want to replace viper alarm with viper alarm
as far as horns go, yeh they go out. nothing odd about that...mainly vibration, heat, and water are the cause. the wire to the horn should be hooked up straight to the alarm brain. usually a brown wire.
You can probably add remote start and the main harness will plug into your new brain. that should take care of ignition and constant power, along with parking lights, locks etc. but the new brain will have a few more wires. one of the more in depth hook ups you will have to do is cutting the starter wire and hooking up the harness to that. it keeps you from cranking the starter when its already running. you will also have to hook up a brake wire. usually there is a wire behind the brake that you tap into. this is so if someone tries to get in your car and go, as soon as they push in the brake to put it in drive, it will die.
you also will have a tachometer wire which helps the brain determine when the car has started. you'll need a wiring diagram or just google your truck to find it. usually it can be found behind the instrument cluster. worse case you can get it from under the hood.
but its definetly something you can do, just be patient!
