Default Re: Door Ajar Alarm

I've spent two days spraying, slamming, and manipulating all of the latches on the 4 doors and I still can't get the dash "door ajar" light to go out. I do not have a "chime alarm" indicating the door is ajar either.

I have found that the bulbs have been removed from the headliner dome light, would that create an "non circuit" indication to the system that the door is ajar? Being lazy, I just haven't replaced these bulbs.

The previous owner said the dome lights wouldn't go out because the door ajar indicator was illuminated, so he removed them, which makes since.

Is there an instructional somewhere on this site that shows the steps to go through on this "lubing the latch" procedures?

It seems a straight forward operation but I must be doing something wrong.

Ok, it worked for like 5 minutes. Now it is NO working again. I wonder if the mechanism or sensor is loose in the smaller "suicide" door. I think my next step is to maybe take that panel off, or see if I can work from inside the door......kind of frustrating

For 4-door supercabs, you have to make sure that the top and bottom latches have caught on the rear doors or you'll get the door ajar light. Maybe not instantly, but certainly around corners or over bumps.

Just tug on the rear door at the top and bottom a little. If the door flexes away from the cab, it's not latched, open the door and close it again with a little more force.

OK, here's what I got now with this damn "Door Ajar" light issue.

I did a complete detail of the interior including removing the rear jump seats (for more room). After I was done, I realized the rear facing 3rd light white lights were on and wouldn't go off.
As I recall, these lights do (designed to) come on when the interior dome light is on or the if the dome light dash mounted dome fade switch is turned on to full. And even when the doors are opened.
These white lights on the roof never worked and assumed the previous owner had pulled the bulbs because they illuminated at all times due to the "Door Ajar" issue. He had pulled the dome lights because they were on at all times.
Well, the roof bulbs had not been pulled, so I pulled them. The last thing I needed was a dead battery.

Any ideas as to why these rear bulbs just started working?
Are these rear facing bulbs supposed to come on when the door is ajar?
Is there a fuse I can pull to deactivate the Door Ajar idiot light?

I have WD40'd all 4 doors latches (top and bottom) and have come close to denting my doors from slamming them so tight. I have no play in the doors when tugged on at top or bottom...they shut tight. I do see the rear doors jiggle when I slam the front doors but the rear doors are tight when shut by themselves.
Still the "door ajar" light is on but, no chime activated (if it is designed to do so).
I have not removed the door panels for inspection (not that I know what to look for there) and hoped it wouldn't result to this....I'm frustrated to say the least.

I had same prob on my 2000 XLT 4 door. I sprayed some PJ1 cleaner into the latch area on the driver's door and that fixed the door ajar light issue immediately. Then thinking the door should have some lubrication, I sprayed some WD-40 in there. Door ajar light came back on. More PJ1 cleaner in the door latch fixed the problem again and it hasn't been back since. That was about 6 months ago. My recommendation is stay away from WD-40 as it seems to just gunk up the latch and keep the sensors from sensing.

Funny.
The problem was non-existent through the summer months, but now that it has gotten cold here in PA, it's started doing it again.
I'm beginning to accept that this is a 12-year old truck and it's got some gremlins.
