Default Trailer tow lights plug at bumber has no power!

I have a 2004 ford ranger 4 cylinder 5 speed manual.

This week for the first time I needed to hook up a trailer to it and realized that the lights won't work.

I took a test light and found that there was no power going to the factory trailer plug at the rear bumper.

After a while I realized that two fuses for the right / left turn signal for the trailer towe plug were blown and now I have those two working.

The brake lights are also working fine now that I got the turn signals to work.

But I still can not get the normal tail lights part of the trailer to work correctly.

I was under the impression that it might also be another fuse that is blown, but I have checked every single fuse on the panel and the trailer tail light still not working... What could it be ?

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a fuse diagram for my specific truck, there seems to be a couple of version floating around the internet but they don't match specifically according to what I know so far about my own truck. The interior fuse panel on my truck is like a triangle location on the side of the dash on the driver side. Not a perfect square...

I wonder how can I get power to that wire on the back ?

2004:
  • Trailer running lights - fuse #2 under the PS kick panel fed from #31 in the same box
  • Right turn/brake - fuse 38 in the underhood box
  • Left turn/brake - fuse 42 in the underhood

Maney, there's something odd going on here. ALL 2004 U.S production Rangers have a large interior fuse panel/module under the passenger side kick panel. 95~2003 had it on the driver side end of the dashboard like you are describing. Perhaps your truck was rebuilt at some point with parts from different years?

Anyway, since you seem to have the earlier dash box, I would start by checking these fuses:

2001~2003:
  • Trailer running lights - fuses 30 and 33 in the underhood box
  • Right turn/brake - fuse 7 in the dash box
  • Left turn/brake - fuse 3 in the dash box
1998~2000:
  • Trailer running lights - fuses 5 and 11 in the underhood box
  • Right turn/brake - fuse 7 in the dash box
  • Left turn/brake - fuse 3 in the dash box

Isn't there a relay in the power distro box under the hood for the trailer running lights too? Wouldn't be surprised if someone took it out to use it for something else.

Yes, there is for 2003 and a few years earlier.
