Default 86 ranger stereo install...extra hot wire?

Hey folks,
so I'm trying to install my aftermarket deck and I see everything I'm supposed to connect to except there's this one thicker yellow wire that sparks pretty good when I touch it to the metal plate that runs underneath where the stereo body rests.

Can anyone identify this wire for me? it seems to be wrapped up with the other stereo wires but I just don't know what it's supposed to be for.

most likely it's the radio illumination dimmer wire. That wire usually isn't used when an aftermarket headunit is installed. I like to use those crimp on 'butt end' connecters to cover ends of wires that are hot or even cold that I don't use. But electrical tape works too.

Also, where can I mount the ground wire? should I screw it down to something? my ground wire is pretty short...Actually, all my wires are pretty short.

ok, so I tried connecting the deck to the wires and I couldn't figure out where to mount the ground wire so I ran a wire all the way to the battery to test it out... turn it on, nothing. where does the harness run? maybe it's disconnected somewhere along the line? any insight would be good... Also, there's a bundle of 4 wires for the stereo, one is constant power, one is running power and then there's two more, any ideas?

There should be more than just 4 wires.....mines got upwards of probably 12? there's two for each speaker(8 wires), constant power, illumination, ground.

Thanks for the link greyghost but that's not for my model year... mine's completely different.

and fx4wannabe there's all those other wires in mine too, I was just indicating the ones in the particular cluster I am trying to deal with.

Sorry, i miss read the post, thought he said 96.

The 14 or 12 gauge yellow wire on the Explorer's is a 12 volt hot wire. Maybe they carried for a few more years.
