HIDs as reverse lights would be stupid
Think about it..are you ever reversing for longer than about 5 seconds? It takes HIDs longer than that just to warm up

And when changing gears in your truck (from park - Drive, etc) you will skip over Reverse, and everytime you do that it will power up the ballast for a quick second, which over time will fry the shit out of your ballast

If you want brighter reverse lights, just go LED

I have these in my 06+ housings... I had to take the end cap off for them to fit...

I think a better solution would be this thing:
http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED-B...-p7516915.html

I like V-leds... I have replaced everything on both my STi and truck pretty much from them... With the exception of the trucks taillights which I got of JP7 with the 1224r leds... and some license plate leds that I am partial to superbrightleds...

This might be interesting:

Though there are no side firing leds...

Either way, I'd stay away from the ebay junk...

And yes, HIDS in reverse lights are pointless.. if you really need that much light, it's time to put a dedicated reverse light that you can manually turn on when you need it.
