Question Which Battery??

The battery in my truck has been getting weaker and is now bad enough that if i dont drive it every day it will not start. Was looking at the different choices of batteries at the local Autozone and wasn't sure which one to get.
Choices are:

1. Gold-Duralast/Battery

Price:
$94.99

Warranty:

8 YR
Notes:

*** 610 cold cranking Amps (760 cranking Amps) *** 90 reserve minutes. -> 3 year free replacement <-

2. Duralast/Battery

Price:
$84.99

Warranty:

7 YR
Notes:

*** 590 cold cranking amps (735 cranking amps). *** 100 reserve minutes. -> 2 year free replacement <-

3. Optima Battery/Battery

Price:
$169.99

Warranty:

3 YR
Notes:

Dual terminal*** 800 cold cranking Amps (1000 cranking Amps) *** 100 reserve minutes. -> 3 year free replacement <- Red top.

I realize the specs on these batteries are totally different but those are the 3 im considering. Just wondering if any of you had experience or preferences with these 3 batteries and/or brands?.

Some will argue this brand is better or that brand is better. Go for the one with the longest replacement warranty that you can afford. I use Walmart batteries for the simple fact I can get it replaced anywhere in the country I may travel to when it dies and gos bad. Autozone is not in every state or city. Walmarts are everywhere.
Here is a small article on who makes what batteries.

I've had good luck with WalMart's MAXX batteries.

9 yr pro-rated warranty, 3 year free replacement.

My last one was getting weak, it was a little over 3 years old. Took it in & they pro-rated it for me... now I've got another 3/9yr warranty for just about $35 difference.

I got the biggest (physical) battery that would fit in my battery tray, 1000/850cca

Lots of batteries are made by the same company: Johnson Industries (or something like that)

Seems like these are $69 or $74 now.

I run Interstate after being through a couple batteries.

The duralast is a good battery, doubt you could go wrong with it.

I'd stay away fromt he Optima. I've had red and yellow top and disliked them both. They are great as a spare or secondary battery but i had trouble on more than one occasion cranking with them in cold weather.

Have you considered Interstate?

I just replaced my Sears Diehard Gold after 7 years of having it in my vehicle. Bench tests said it was still good but I replaced it with another one. A little pricey but very reliable.

Yeah optima was good a few years back, when they were gell cell batteries, but now there is no reason to spend double your money, cause they are just like a normal glass packed battery :/ they are riding the wave of their old battery's glory, but they no longer make good batteries.

+1 if you are a Wally world shopper just buy one there.......if you are short on money you can find an Interstate manufacturer and buy there New "blemished" ones for about $20

Out of your list - Number 1
I use these in both my truck and my wifes vehicle.
I just clean the cable terminals spray everything with silicone, slap those felt corrosion protectors on make sure everything is seated and tight, and that's more than half the battle right there as far as longevity and reliability.

I do like the Interstate batteries though. I think it's the name that gets me.

Any chance i could get the # and dimensions of that battery?
Was looking for a more powerful battery anyways.

Gotta go with what your alternator can support. A much higher output battery needs a higher output alternator. Anyone know the threshold?

Sure, next time I'm out in the garage I'll get the measurements.
I forget the model #, but I just measured my battery tray & squeezed in the largest battery that would fit... it also has more cranking amps than the stock size 650+/-.
If your tray is too small, you can easily remedy that with a grinder & cutoff wheel.
Somebody stole the battery hold down before I got the truck so I just fabbed my own using some threaded rod, nuts & washers and some 1/8" flat bar stock.

I'm running an interstate in mine, just got it. No probs yet. My dad has ran interstate in the Astro van for years and that thing ALWAYS starts. Even after leaving the rotator bar for a few hours. (got to the fire hall and forgot to turn it off)
