Default Battery terminal corrosion

I've had my Ranger 2.5yrs and the negative terminal has always had pretty bad corrosion issues. Last Spring I popped in a new battery and same problem. Any ideas on this --- as it is I'll have to put on a new negative terminal wire this Spring.

Scrub that bitch with a copper wire brush, and then throw some grease on it.

I have used baking soda and water to clean them. Lat time I did it, It didnt happen for a couple years. Try an upgraded terminal for your battery, I know Buggman knows his stuff about that!

They do make grease for terminals, and it does work better than normal Grease. But any grease will do.

one thing that will help prevent corrosion in the future is to put a penny between the terminals with a dab of grease to hold the penny in place. Any corrosion will move to the penny instead of the terminals. Any penny works, I've been doing this for years.

An old used car salesman told me many years ago that he cleans battery terminals with plain old Coca-Cola from the can. Pour some on, let it set, scrub, wash off.

I never needed to try it myself, but with my last battery I put on a set of those little red/green felt rings under the terminals & they seem to work pretty well.

As for the penny trick, it should work as long as you use a pre-1985 penny. I believe everything after 1985 isn't pure copper like the older ones are, they're a zinc/copper plating.

Nope, that's where the dab of grease comes in. It holds the penny in place no matter the temperature.
