Default Cruise Control lights

How do you replace the lights in the steering wheel controls? the lights on the right side of the steering wheel are burned out

lol@scubasteve!

I know a couple guys have modded theirs with LED's & whenever I finally get time to work on some, I'm going to have my own version available pretty soon (hopefully)

It has a funky little bulb holder inside that isn't an easy one to find a replacement for... THANKS FORD!

You need to remove the airbag to get at the 2 screws per cruise pod & carefully disconnect the connectors from the pods. Once you have the pods off, you have to carefully pry the plastic button section apart from the hard plastic base. 99% of the time, you'll break the tabs that hold them together... silicone is your friend when it comes to re-attaching them. Once inside, you'll see the little plastic bulb holder thingy that's held in place by a 1/4 or 1/2 turn. If you mod it with an LED, you HAVE to have the led's polarity correct or it will not work... I forgot which is which right now, but I'm sure somebody will jump in.

I haven't done it myself, but I believe you just need to remove the airbag, maybe the black plastic surround around the steering column (if you need more clearance to work)

That's one of the main reasons I haven't done mine yet.

Some say it's safe to work around the airbag & some say to disconnect the battery beforehand.
I'm leaning towards disconnecting the battery & being extra careful... the last thing I need is to pop a $500+ airbag installing a led mod.

Disconnest the battery first, then pop the small black caps off the side of the steering wheel. You'll need a socket wrench to take the two bolts off. When the bolts are out then pull the airbag off, and unclip the wire harness. Then use a phillips head screw driver to remove the 2 screws to the cruise toggle. The toggle is wired, so use a pair of needle nose pliers and hold the wire bracket that is plugged into the toggle. gently wiggle it back and forth until it seperates, dont force too hard, you may run the risk of ripping off the wires which is not a good thing. It is pretty simple, hardest part is removing the wire harness, but patience is a virtue on that dude

Ok, if you are that unsure about it do what I do. I don't unplug it, I just pull it out and turn it around and sit on top of the column. I have done this many times with no problem.
