Hi. I'm new here and have what is becoming a major issue. Let me start with the needed information:
1999 Ranger XLT
5 speed manual
About 3 weeks ago the Ranger wouldn't start. It would crank all day, but there no fuel. I was thinking it was the fuel pump until I realized the anti-theft light on the dash would flash rapidly after 3 seconds of cranking. Checking the factory service manual, I figured it had to the PATS (anti-theft) system. Towing it to the dealer (behind my wife's Subaru), a scan proved it to be the PCM went onto the big pile of dead electronic modules in the sky.
The dealer replaced the PCM, reprogramed, and off we went. Forward 2 1/2 weeks. Snow in northern MN and out driving. No blower. No defroster. No heater. At any speed. Then all of the sudden, it works. Head home and park. Later in the day and go out, the fan runs. Next time I shut down and restart the engine, no blower.
So I go through the routine.
Fuse is good, no power at the switch, resister pack or motor. Back to the dealer where "we didn't do it, we weren't near the blower motor",
but they said they will check it out on Thursday (I have to drive 600 miles one way next week).
Go back out and the fan is running again. Stop at the store, come out and fire up to go home--you guessed it--no fan.
I'm open to suggestions.
I'm thinking that a wire may have been pulled during the PCM changeout and I have an intermittent connection. But I don't know where the PCM is or where I might look for a loose connection (loose plug, wiring, etc).
Even the factory service isn't much help. I cannot get near most of the wiring and really don't know where to start.
