Default 2002 Ranger FX4, Parking lights will not turn off.

After driving home from work I came out to find that my parking lights were on, but the switch was turned off. When I opened the door I found that the lights on warning was also sounding. Tried to pull fuse to turn off lights and none of the fuses or relays under the hood would turn off the lights. I did find one fuse that turned off the lights on warning indicator and dash lights, but would not turn off the parking lights. Checked the Ford service manuals and the one suggestion was to pull the plug off the head light switch. This requires removal of the dash. Before I go to all the trouble wanted to see if anyone has experienced similar problems. For now have pulled the negative battery terminal to keep from running down the battery. Any suggestions?

try disconecting the battery, then re conecting it after waiting a few minutes.
maybe this will clear up the problem.

The fuse that feeds the parking/running lights is #33 in the underhood box.

It sounds like the brown wire is staying hot with the headlight switch off. The primary suspect is the headlight switch itself. If you remove the connector at the H/L switch and that kills the lights, then it is almost certainly a faulty switch. If the lights stay on with it unplugged, you'll need to look elsewhere.
