Default Air Bag

I have a 2001 Ranger XLT Supercab. My 2 1/2 year old son rides in the front and I have always had the airbag off. He was at the grandparents last week so I took the car seat out and turned the airbag back on. Today when I put the car seat back in and turned the switch to "off" the air bag light on the dash came on blinked and stayed on. I also noticed that the passenger airbag light that turns yellow when "off" did not come on.

Not sure what the deal is... I know that there are sensors etc. that can go bad. Any suggestions??? I don't like the fact the passenger "off" light is not on. Thanks.

The light that illuminates the off burnt out more than likely resulting in the gauge light to come on

No a simple swap bulb either u have to solder a new light into it

Make a trip to your local radio shack and get a 272-334 12v DC bulb........They only come in GREEN and RED....under 3$ for 2 of them

Tools needed.... 8mm socket for the battery cable, Philips screw driver, a small flat head, soldering iron, solder, and side cuts

Pop the hood and unhook the negative battery cable

remove the cup holder / center console...The surrounding trim piece just pops off....also remove the ashtray to see whats going on.....

Remove 2 screws on the bottom of the unit...and it swings out towards the back of the truck, with some help it will flip down and come out..
Unplug the wires from the back, and pull it out

Go to your work station

And pop the top off....and you will see this...

You can pull the whole piece out,
light gone..

Solder the new light on

Tuck it back down in the hole...

Pop the top back on and assemble it all back together, and your finished product is a green light...

And no airbag light...

Default Light

Sweet, I am crossing my fingers this is whats wrong. I appreciate the pics and step by step instructions. Is the bulb something Radio Shack keeps in stock? I plan on taking care of this tomorrow. Do you know if the airbags are disabled if the light goes out? I turned the key to run, but did not start the truck I watched the airbag light and it flashed in the following sequence: 2-7-2-7-2-7-2-7-2-7

As far as the air bag being disabled with the light out I don't think so

That's mainly why u take off the neg. battery cable

So just put the new light on... No dice I was hoping it would correct the problem. The airbag light on the dash still flashes the same sequence. Could it be the whole switch and not just the light? I checked the sensors on under both seats, everything seems to be in good working. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have/had the same problem with mine, but it mysteriously disappeared...!? it'll ome on at random times and flash for a few days (or weeks) then goes away and comes back at another random time... Not sure what it is, but it sounds like RSRUSS6399 and I are in the same boat (er, truck) lol My "off" light isn't burnt out, cuz it turns on along with all the other dash lights during start-up... I know somebody will chime in with an equivalent idea... Thanks!

I can only think that some how the inside of the connection is dirty with debris
Try cleaning it with a electronic type cleaner and see if that does anything

Default Air Bag

So either the circuit board was out on the switch or my soldering abilities are not up to par. I ended up ordering a new switch, which once installed did the trick. Thanks for the postings which saved me $$$$. Just a heads up I ordered the part from Tousley Ford outside of the Twin Cities Tousley Ford Parts Depot they were much cheaper than any of the dealers in town by quite a bit. Might be worth a look if any of you guys need parts. Thanks again!
