Default Fun little wire coming out of my fuse box, Fuse #10

It appears there is some sort of "Redneck Solution" [pardon the expression] going on in my dash panel fuse box.

Location #10, which is described as: "Speed Control Servo/Amplifier Assembly, Generic Electronic Module (GEM), Shift Lock Actuator, Blend Door Actuator, A/C-Heater Assembly, Turn Signals"... has a little copper wire coming out of the right side of it. Where it leads? Not sure.

It seems that when the wire was disconnected, my 4WD disabled (I get the famous "six-blink" 4WDHIGH/4WDLOW lights). I reconnected it, and the 4WD is fine.

My truck is not a prom date, so I don't really care that the wire is there... you can only see it when you open the fuse panel. But is this a potential long term issue? I did blow Fuse #10 just last week, and the replacement seems to be fine.

Thanks!

So you mean it comes from the front, and then wraps around the fuse?

If you remove the lower panel from the dash, you can get a view of the back of the fuse box.

On your truck, I think the GEM module handles the 4x4 functions. THat might explain why the wire going to the GEM fuse fixed your 4x4.

the end of the wire is jammed into one of the two holes that the fuse plugs into... I can fit both the wire and the fuse in there, so its not an issue. It's just weird.

I'll take a picture if need be.

Is it just a straight copper wire, or does it have colored insulation? If it has colored insulation, what are the colors?

Insulated copper wire, pretty thin. It actually looks like completely clear insulation (you can see the copper wire through the rubber)

My friend (former mechanic, current police officer) is suggesting that the wire must go to my transfer case. If it causes the 4WD to mess up when disconnected, and I have an electronic transfer case (grrr), I guess it couldn't possibly go anywhere else.
