Headlight Problem

So about a year ago, my headlights stopped working. The only way that I could get any lights to work was to pull my turn signal handle towards me, as my high beams don't work. I looked at the bulb and it works, and there is only one set so it must be an electrical problem. I was curious if anyone has any experience in the matter.

P.S. My ranger recently began sputtering and i was curious if it is an expensive fix.

I had the same problem in my old 88 escort GT..
the electrical harness ford installed could not "Handle" the load and over time, began to fail.
I'm hoping your problem is just something in the multifunction switch (turn signal lever)
rather than needing a new harness like i did.
I'm out near Hopkins/minnetonka.

My 98 Ranger has headlight issues. The headlights sometimes did not come when starting out and sometimes just went off while driving. My first move was to replace the headlight dash switch. Now the headlights, except for the FTP, don't work at all. After checking the wires into the plug for the headlight switch, two wires had no current. I called the local Ford dealer about a wires for just from the switch to wherever the other end plug might be. I didn't want to only replace just what I can see, just in case I couldn't go back far enough to take care of the problem. From what I can see the wires to the switch look fine, except for the two that have no current. The parts man at the local Ford dealer must be on commission. He told me that EVERY SINGLE braid/harness behind the dash board had to replaced for this particular problem. I'm a contract killer, I kill bugs for a living, it sounded to me like he didn't know what he was talking about. What is the best way to fix this right? There is a local auto electrical place, but I just don't have $500. to put into this. Any help woulds be greatly appreciated. I did search, but only found close and similar issues. Sorry if this is a duplicate.
