Guys, all this back and fourth about is it legal or not is a bunch of bull. Motor vehicles laws as it relates your headlights are STATE LAWS and they vary by state. The law in CT is not the same as NY is not the same as NY is not the same as MA and so on. So you're all wrong, especially whoever said it's illegal without projectors.

You need to look up the law for your state. Any and all other answers are useless BS. Based on what it sounds like from your ticket, your lights were too bright. I think that is pretty straight forward. It has nothing to do with HID's. It doesn't matter what kind of lamp is in there if it is too bright. And no, you won't get it dropped because of spelling.

Photographs are not really an accurate way to judge brightness since they don't work the same way as your eyes. However, I think you have them aimed way too high.

x2 on everything.

Everything in this thread is 100% speculation unless you provide the exact code you were written up for violating.

There are probably 25+ violations you can be given that have to do with your headlight output. To believe that just because you received a citation while your HIDs were in use automatically means HIDs are illegal is ludicrous.

If I had to guess you were cited for either:
1) Failing to properly align the headlights
2) Having an improper color output

It's funny because in CA, where you think the cops would be epic dickheads, I've been pulled over 3 times with HID's in non-projector headlights and have yet to be ticketed for them. Note, that the reasons I got pulled over had nothing to do with my headlights. All 3 of the times were at night too.

Speculation is all we could afford till we got precisions on what was written on the ticket.

As for the x2, that source was already proven unreliable with worst examples.

you can read it well enough to know the officer misspelled a word, but you can't read the statute number on the violation?

Well then once again, you have proven that this has nothing to do with HID's and nothing to do with what is legal and what isn't. It is clearly spelled out right there in front of you. Your lights were too bright. End of story.
