| | Tricking DRLs to power up the HIDs
I found this awesome thread in a mazda site http://www.mazda3forums.com/blahblah
From a guy nicknamed MtlSportGT (had to give props )
I wonder if we could apply this plan to the ranger, and if it would cancel any warranty?
Or would DDM's harness kit fix that problem and allow the DRL system to turn on the lights?

I haven't heard of anyone having issues with drls pat so Id say that it's not an issue, but I could be wrong

Only Canadian Rangers come with DRL's so it isn't a factor to 99% of the people here. It's entirely possible nobody else has ever had this problem. Also, I don't think the Rangers use that kind of circuit for DRL's. They either just turn them on or turn them on with a lower voltage. I've never even heard of this pulsing thing before. Yes, that circuit design shown will work for pulsing voltage. But that's on a Mazda 3, not a Ranger and I don't think Rangers work like that.

I think that there are also more than %1 canadians on here also, and just cause you arent up at 230 doesnt mean no one is..
I am going to look more into this. I am in a habit of turning light on b4 starting but would love to see this problem fixed.

It wouldn't be an issue at all ordinarely, but my country passed a law, so i don't have the choice, lol! Quote:

Seeing as Ford and Mazda share a lot of parts (sometimes they share those whole damn vehicle), one could entertain the far fetched idea that a mazda 3's drl could be similar to a ranger's system. Quote: http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums...unning-lights/

Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Printable View (100 KB)
Special Tool(s) Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) software with appropriate hardware, or equivalent scan tool
Principles of Operation
NOTE: The smart junction box (SJB) is also known as the generic electronic module (GEM).
NOTE: When installing a new SJB, it must be configured for this feature, if originally equipped. Refer to Section 418-01.
The SJB controls the DRL by using various inputs to determine whether or not the DRL should be illuminated. These inputs include:
Ignition switch position
Headlamp switch position
Headlamps on or off
Transmission gear selection (automatic transmission)
Parking brake applied or released (manual transmission) When the DRL is active, the SJB provides a pulse-width modulated (PWM) voltage to the low beam headlamps. This illuminates the headlamps at a reduced intensity. | Quote: |
I don't think Rangers work like that.
| What now, Mr 99%?

I said probably. Usually it is just a reduced voltage. If that is how rangers vary the voltage, then great. You have your solution I guess. Since they only use those in CANADA, most of us here in the United States don't have it to experiment or deal with. So you 1% Canadians can deal with it!

I went to ford, asked them, and they said if one truck works with a pulse modulator, they're not going to use something different on every other model. And he'd never heard of a low voltage system. I'm still searching for the answer and not a theory, will post it here as i get it.
In the meantime, please keep your condescending remarks to yourself.
