Did some searching through previous threads it is a 1997 Ranger

Fuse #17 is the cigarette lighter.

I seen that its the cigarette lighter but does it control other things also. I know in GM's it controls cigar lighter, dome light and horn sometimes. Reason I ask is my fuel gauge isnt working and the 17 fuse keeps blowing. Its a 96 ranger xlt not sure what liter size but its a 4 cylinder.

If it keeps blowing you may have a short. I had a 93 XL that kept messing up, turns out the previous owner had a nickel wedged in the cigarette lighter

The strange thing is....the cig lighter works and so does everything else except for the fuel gauge???? Like I said...its the #17 fuse and it clearly shows in the book that its the cig lighter fuse?????? I just dont get it.

fuel gauge has a tendency to stop working when the fuel pump is about to go...Ive seen is happen in a b2300, 4.0 ranger and a GMC jimmy. Except my 4.0 didnt go out before I changed it...2 weeks after the guage stopped working, I changed the FP and it was good as new again.

Possibly your problems are unrelated...Because #11 is your gauges and it is only 7.5 where #17 is 25amp. Fuel guage shouldnt be blowing a 25amp, and it shouldnt be the only non-working gauge either.

Like clinton said. Pull off the bezel the cig lighter is on and unplug the lighter, then see if another fuse blows.
