I don't know if a different year would fit, I know on my GMC I bought one off a 2000 and its worked great, as far as I know as long as there weren't any major changes in the engines for those years it should work just fine. I paid 35 bucks for my alternator in my GMC and it has lasted longer then the "new" (reman fml) one I bought for my GMC. My biggest thing was to find the newest truck to the yard, and that was in the best shape, at least in the front end. If the truck caught on fire, looks like it went through a flood, or has no hood, something along those lines I wouldn't touch it.
