| | Headlight Switch Light Always On?
I got a question about my 05' Ranger. Is the headlight switch suppose to light up when the rest of the lights are cut off? I mean everytime I crank my truck up, the headlight switch lights up in broad daylight even when the lights are off. I don't know if this is normal, I am just wanting to check with you guys...

STL, your light burned out too huh? Yea I just replaced the switch today and for the first time I saw the light come on as soon as I cranked the truck up and I was like, "What in the world? I didn't even tell you to turn on?" I guess I am not used to the truck yet... lol. Thanks STL for the info.

Yeah a lot of newer cars just have their lots on all the time. Apparently its a saftey issue, because even during the day, some drivers still have a hard time seeing certain colored vehicles, like white or silver. The lights have helped with that issue apparently.
mine doesnt do that and im sorta glad. It sounds like it would get annoying after a while.

I never noticed mine being on during the daytime until I modded mine with a green LED.
Guess the stinky OEM blue bulb didn't put out enough light to see during the day, barely enough to see at night.

Would my 2001's light up?
Because the knob, does not have lights behind it, the white line is just painted on.
But the other part light up?
pics?

The actual white mark on the headlight switch doesn't light up (like the HVAC knobs do), rather the 2 little round icons on the dash just above the switch.
There's a single bulb in the headlight switch that illuminates both round icons from behind. From what I've seen, most of them burn out.
It's a bit of a job to get the dash off to get to the headlight switch, but I've modded a bunch with LED's & they look a LOT better.
The actual bulb holder in the top of the headlight/4x4 switch simply comes out with a 1/4 or 1/2 turn with a flat screwdriver.
My mod uses the original bulb holder & is a simple swap (once you have the dash off to get to the back side of the switch).
(Partial thread jack)
PM me if interested in a modded bulb holder for the headlight switch, 4x4 switch or OEM fog light switch.
(End thread jack)

^^ so the icons SHOULD light up?
How would you get to the bulb? (would unscrewing the fuse panel be an easy way to gain access?)

Here's a couple pics of one I modded:
All lit up:
I hate to say, but I had to remove the radio bezel, the black trim around the steering wheel, the lower dash panel & metal brace behind it & the dash panel in front of the gauge cluster to get to the headlight switch.
Once you get to the switch, it only takes a minute to remove the bulb holder/swap the new one in.
You "might" be able to go through the fuse panel, but you'd need tiny/skinny hands to get in there.
From what I understand, Ford doesn't sell just the bulb holder ass'y, they want you to buy the entire switch ass'y. BOO!
I have a couple extra bulb holders for the headlight switch if you only want to remove the dash & stuff one time... some guys send me their bulb holder(s) to mod when I'm out of extras or after they receive their LED modded holders.

Ahhh lamesauce! Haha, and it looks like 400x better when they light up!
I wish I could just change the bulb, one LED thing in my truck, and nothing else is kinda lame.
