Default Temp gauge not functioning

Greetings!

I have an issue similar to taz. I have a 2000 4x4 3.0 (flex). I recently had to do some cooling system work and now my temp gauge is not working. The system is full of fluid, the thermostat is working correctly and i replaced the sensor. I verified the gauge is working by attaching a lead to the pos side of the sensor plug and grounding the other end (BTW this sent the gauge needle up like it was on Viagra when i turnd the key). I even went as far as to put dialectric grease on the leads. Can anybody enlighten me as to what the issue might be? It's getting hot in Minnesota and i have been avoiding using the A/C for fear of cooking my engine. BTW 175,000 and still going strong!

thanks in advance for any help.

Resurrecting an older thread just for clarity.

So my temp gauge doesn't work and I would like to test the gauge before replacing sensor.

??Unplug the sensor, lead to the pos side of sensor goes to disconnected wire and neg. just gets grounded to chassis?? Is this correct?
