Default Air conditioner Question

I have a 2001 Ranger XLT. When I put my heater selector to the split level, the AC compressor kicks on. It doesn't come on in other positions except Where its supposed to like AC or Defrost? Is that proper?

Any time you have it set to something involving defrost, the compressor will activate. Vent and floor (not AC) should operate without the compressor.

Mine is. I guess I have some more checking to do. Possibly the selector switch?

Received new switch, still kicks AC on when I put it in the split level position. Guess that's how its sposed to work. Don't know why.

On a ranger the a/c is used on every setting but the vent. Which is one click to the left. Reason it’s used on all the right settings is those are normally used for heat and it acts as a dehumidifier in your cab to keep the windows from fogging. You have to manually wire in a switch and relay to kill the a/c if you don’t want it to work.

Pretty sure I said the same thing in post #3 the day you started the thread. At least you have a spare panel now.

What is the point of asking questions on a web forum if you don't read the answers given by other posters?
