Default New alternator wiring

So my alternator went bad on my 87 2.3 . Got a new one at the parts store, however the new one has a built in regulator instead of a plug out one, so I had to strip the original wires from the truck to connect to the new alternator wires. However the problem is that the new alternator has 3 wires, and my factory wires are only 2. There seems to be an extra wire in the new alternator that doesnít line up with any of the wires on my truck . Wondering if this is a problem or can I just tape it off ?
The white wire seems to be the extra one
