Unhappy STARTING ISSUE w/2005 2.3l manual transmisson xl standardcab

When I jump start the starter with a screwdriver it starts up everytime.
however this is a temporary solution, as i am trying to sell my truck asap.
Im not very technical at all, but I would prefer to fix the problem myself to save money. Im not sure if this is a bad starter, a bad starter solenoid, or even a wire issue. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time.

By using a screwdriver your bypassing the solenoid. Change the starter or look for a bad starter wire.

If you can start it by jumping the solenoid the starter motor itself is fine. But you didn't really narrow much else down. Could still be the ignition switch, fuse, relay, solenoid, wiring, safety switch ect ect...

What exactly happens when you try to start it with the key? Clicking noises? Anything?

Start simple and visually inspect all wires to and from the starter. Then check fuse #21 on the interior fuse panel, fuse #7 & 9 on the engine compartment fuse panel, and relay #48 in the engine compartment fuse panel. Since you have a manual trans also check the neutral safety switch (you're on your own there, not sure which fuse that is but also check the switch itself)

If they all check good then test to see if the solenoid is getting power with the key at the start position (the small terminal which usually has an 's' on it is 12 volt positive from the ignition switch). If its getting power the solenoid is dead or not grounded properly. If its not getting power its either wiring or ignition switch.
