Default 2000 Impact Sensor Help

Hello,

I recently had a small fender bender and both my airbags deployed. I know I need to replace the airbags, module, and crash sensors. I've got the airbags and module sourced, but I'm having trouble tracking down the right impact sensors. I think I've narrowed it down to sensors F8YZ-14B004-AA and F8YZ-14B004-AB however, I'm finding some conflicting information. My ranger is a 2.5L automatic, and I'm seeing that the 2000 model might not actually have crash sensors and in fact only uses the RCM?

Then again, what little information I've found online shows that the two 14B004 sensors are compatible with my ford. To add to the confusion most AA sensors I've found for sale online are marked both AA and AB, implying the left and right sensors are actually interchangeable? I have my pickup stored at a friend's place and I won't have a ride for a couple of days, so I can't go check to see if it actually has the sensors. I'm not even sure where I would look. Any help would be appreciated!

And why are you doing this and not your insurance? or a Qualified shop?

Not saying you may be incapable but a "fender bender" doesn't deploy airbags.... and a shop/insurance will certainly look at the vehicle a little deeper since the airbags were deployed telling them and us there's quite possibly more unseen damage than you may be aware of.

Airbags deploy under "deceleration", with speeds of over 7MPH, and completely crushing the sensor(s) which are generally mounted behind the bumper but in the core support/header panel area. I am sure someone on here could snap a pic for those but at the very least you should be able to still pull part numbers off the remnants or old parts.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. By "fender bender", I mean I ran into a concrete base for a light post in a parking lot. The concrete base was totally fine, the light post was amused, and my pickup was left un-drivable. The driver side front spindle snapped in half, the bumper bent inwards, and front left panel now has a massive dent.

My basic insurance doesn't cover this accident. Money is an issue, and a mechanic friend that owns a fabrication shop offered to do the work for cheap, as long as I source the parts. $2000 dollars from a qualified collision shop vs $400 for parts and labor from a buddy is a big difference.

It's safe to assume that the frame is bent too.

Yea.. I bet its pretty hard to convince an insurance agent, let alone insurance company, that a suicidal light pole jumped in front of your truck and despite honking and honking while shouting expletives you decided to run it down and show it who was boss..

good luck with that tho

Update for the sake of anyone googling for this info:

The 2000 4 cylinder model DOES NOT HAVE impact sensors. The RCM has a built in electronic sensor. It's about $45 to have an RCM reset btw, and recertified RCMs are available on ebay for about $70.

The 2000 Electric model DOES have impact sensors, which are F8YZ-14B004-AA and F8YZ-14B004-AB. Also, there were EV Rangers! They would probably make for a cool project car if they weren't so rare. Retrofitting with Tesla motors and batteries would be sick.

As for my pickup, the frame was totally fine. I had to replace the ball joint, tie rod end, upper control arm, and spindle. Overall I paid $445, which is pretty darn good considering.
