You can take a DVOM or a test light even to test either switch. Obviously its going to have a ground and power side to it but then they are reversing polarity, similar to the 5 wire door locks. If I recall, much like the mustang and other Ford vehicles. Passenger side is the master switch, what i don't recall is why, been awhile.
Usually what you describe is a tired motor. Its got the weight of the window which easily helps it go down the track but no balls to grind it back up.. Thats if the regulator is working as intended. I have seen a window motor drag a regulator down with the glass and literally fold on itself and bend to a then useless point. Then its niether a motor or a switch issue but a regulator [window track or armature]
If it were me, I'd prove out switches first and if
estamos bien, then its def the motor being old or used a lot and should be the next logical culprit.
