Default Faint Spark At Battery Connection

I have had my new battery drain after the truck has sat unused for 2-5 weeks. I am getting a faint spark at the battery connection when nothing on the truck is turned on. Is this normal, due to the anti-theft light, doing it`s thing??

I have pulled all of the small and large fuses, one at a time and the faint spark is still there. Only time it goes away, is when I pull the 50 amp I/P panel fuse. Anything else I should check ?? --- John

Not my place to ask why it sits for that long without at least starting it up once or twice or driving it a day.

Is it the positive or negative side?

Typically if you kill a lead acid type battery below 50% of its power, you can damage cells within the battery and or it can severely lead towards a weakening condition of the battery. That being said, if the vehicle will start on its own [now], take a DVOM and have someone start the truck while you measure the drop across the battery terminals.

If it drops below 10v, id consider early replacement or soon.

If not, continue to crank and measure the alternators input into the battery, make sure its 13.8v+. If not there's a concern. If good there, then take an ohmeter to the cable and check ohms to ground, very likely you will find a short circuit.

You will need an amp meter to see how many amps are being drawn at the battery.Set to in milliamps and pull the fuses one at a time and watch for a drop to isolate the circuit.Normal draw will be around fifty milliamps + or - .
