Default 2001 no click no start no nothing

hi so I am new to this forum but I bought a 2001 ranger 2.3 manual about a year ago and today is the first time the truck actually wouldn't start for me. it started about a week ago when I went out to start the truck and it just did a one click and no start but after a few tries the truck started up. now it wont even give me a click. when I try to start it the radio shuts off and the e brake light comes on for some reason. I have a brand new battery in it and the starter was tested and they said that the thing passed. I have used a test light and I'm getting power to the starter so I am not sure what is wrong here any help would be appreciated. this electrical gremlin is killing me

On the fender near the battery should be a starter relay solenoid. Some times the older ford cables would go bad but I think by your year they cleared that up with a better grade of cable.

I would test not only the thick lines going from the starter but the thin line that kicks the starter over. Make sure your frame grounds haven't corroded as well. May have power but then the voltage drop is on the ground side not completing the circuit.

Should both lines have constant power to them? When I disconnected the thicker wire to it the current was gone from the thinner wire. Also I didn’t see the starter solenoid relay thing you were talking about. Is it the same as the thing on the starter itself that the wires go to or could it be something different? Sorry for the odd questions I’m just not sure about electrical problems. But thanks for reasponding

You don't have the relay he is talking about. That changed around 97/98 ish. You just have a starter relay in the fusebox and a solenoid on the starter motor itself.

As you hold the key in the start position try pushing the clutch pedal in and out. The clutch pedal position switch is inline with the start circuit.

Also look under the dash near the ebrake and clutch pedal for cut wires, since you are getting the e brake light on the dash.

Thanks sheltonfilms, turns out there was 2 wires that were touching on that terminal for the clutch pedal switch and once I fixed them the truck started right up. No clue how I managed to break them but oh well. Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it .
