Cool Vertical and Horizontal type coil packs

I have a 2000 ford ranger 3.0l . I needed a coil Pack and was low on money. I found one on a exposition with a 4.0l .I didn't know at the time there was a difference in the two style packs the connectors looked the same. I installed it and my truck wouldn't start. After some research I noticed the only difference in the two were the order on with the front and back coil packs were wired. So I switched the plug wires on top the coil from front to back and it worked. I now have a 6 cylinder instead of 5. Hope this helps out someone.

You put a coil pack for a 4.0 on a 3.0 and thought it would work????

Apparently with a little tweaking, it did!

A coil pack is only $70-$80 so it isn't expensive and not worth jury rigging the wrong part.

$70 - $80 is a LOT of money when you don't have it. I am there right now. Broke as hell. The used coil pack he got for much less or maybe even free... and it got his truck running again. I'd call that a win. Moral of the story: Not everyone is made of money.

I know how to read a electrical diagram. After I found out the two style coils were different internally I found a schematic of both coil packs and out of the 4 wires only 2 were in different order. So instead of cutting and splicing wires I just swapped the plug wires. A good coil pack will cost about $100 new
