Default Replacing battery cable?

So i think im going to be replacing the battery cables on my 02 4.0 ranger. I have a no crank no start issue that keeps coming around. I just replaced the ignition switch a couple of weeks ago and that wasnt the problem. Ive replaced the terminals. Ive cleaned/sanded all possible ground locations but nothing helps. Whenever i turn the key to start the truck everything on the dash just cuts off. Once i release it everything power backs up radio starts playing etc. I dont really know what causes it. All i know is its intermitent. Meaning i can crank it 10 times just fine and then all of the sudden the 11,12,13 etc ...time itll just cut off. Then start back up on the 14th. PO said he replaced the starter and that didnt solve it. Ive done electrical testing with another member here but that kind of just led me in circles after a while.

Anyway im hoping replacing the battery cables themselves will be the miracle im hoping for. Has anyone replaced them and know approximately how much time is involved. Is there any speed bumps along the way like a bolt thats impossible to reach?

Ive looked up my vin on fordparts.com and i think motorcraft WC-95637 is the correct part number. Hopefully it will take a weekend morning or something along that line to replace.

Does your year have the Starter solenoid on the Drivers inner fender? A lot of Fords were notorious for that wire going to the solenoid from the battery would rot out..

And for what it may be worth, rather than go stock cables why not do the Big 3 and bump everything up in grade of wire as well gauge? I bumped all the smaller 10-12ga to 8ga and the 6ga main cables to 4ga especially down to the starter both Ground and starter wire itself.

I've yet to take the harness down enough to re-wrap it with the new 1/0 cable I've got ready but that'll likely get done when I get the upgraded ALT, for now the 130amp ALT doesn't really require it just yet..

If i could do it again wouldn't completely replace anything i would just add on to the existing wiring but i wasn't having the issue you are experiencing OP.

It all can be done in an afternoon as long as you have all the materials you need.

Definitely look at improving the ground from the battery to engine block and body.

Ford's is weak AF!

That is all the grounding you get from factory wiring.

I just wanted to say I have the same year and is a 4.0 and I'm having a no crank no start issue. Only mine is all the time. The solenoid is attached to the starter.

@understm8 i don't believe mine has the solenoid on the fender. As far as I know it's on the starter. Im not 100% certain but I think the issue is I don't get full 12+v to the signal wire. I remember once looking at it and getting like 11.69

@mark I would add onto the existing wire if I had not cut off and replaced the terminals. The negative clamp was already kind of squashed and splitting. As it sits now it had one of those universal replacement terminals. The set of factory Motorcraft wires runs $80 shipped and comes with both Pos and neg.

@kgo do you mean like it never EVER cranks over? Because mine is inconsistent. There are days when it happens like 2 to 3 times a day. There are days when it doesn't happen at all. When it happens I usually sit in the car for a minute or two and do nothing else but crank it over and it eventually decides to crank and start.

Yes. Mine has not started at all since this problem "started".
