Default P1443

I have a 1997 ford ranger 2wd 2.3 4cyl 5 speed truck that I just put another new motor in. Now I'm getting a CE code P1443. Has anyone else had this code? Any ideas or suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks.

Did you put a ( rebuilt engine ) in the truck or is your idea of new really a used engine ?

Here is a link to another Forum where a similar problem and code devolved after a engine swap was done where a used engine was installed.

His problem turned out to be a Harness that was used from the used engine he installed, installing the original harness cured the problem.

https://www.ranger forums .com/4-0l-...-input-151804/

If this does not help and you really installed a rebuilt or somehow a new engine in the truck using the original harness and accessories let us know and we can help try and pin point the problem.

But my first recommendation would be is to double check your work, Look for disconnected, dry rotted, cracked or leaking vacuum lines, loose electrical connections pinched wires, wiring harnesses or vacuum lines not installed routed correctly.

Even check for ground wires left disconnected or poorly grounded.

This is a fresh built motor. New everything except the block, throttle body, intake, exhaust manifold. However all the wiring is all original to my truck. All sensors are plugged in and grounds good to go. Vacuum lines all hooked up but some may need to be replaced running to the "cylinder" on the drivers side front of the truck. There is a canister looking deal in line that then has a vacuum line running to a plastic box so to say.

CEL has been on for this since I bought the truck 9 years ago. This is the 2nd motor I've had in it. I use to travel ALOT. Just wanting it to be 100% right with no CEL anymore.

I've ran into this code before. The evap system was original with over 200k on it so I just replaced with new components even though it was just the purge solenoid and canister didn't have good flow. The charcoal canister is the costly part. There are hacks online related to the canister, none of which I recommend if you have emission inspections. Vacuum lines had signs of cracking and dry rot.

Well called auto zone and ordered the PV213 and the PV342. Plan on picking up new vacuum hose as well. And I have a spare gas cap at home. Figured I would start 1 part at a time.

Will the code go away once the issue is fixed or do I need to clear the code after installing 1 new part and wait to see if it trips again? Figured what ever parts I don't use I'll return.

Ok. Picked up parts, haven't installed them yet then on my way home CEL went out......... Wtf?!?!? Doesn't make any sense. Bulb is good cause light comes on when key is in on position then goes out once started. Why would it do that? Lol.

When whatever was causing the code goes away, after a certain amount of drive cycles, the ecm thinks the problem has been corrected and turns off the CEL. If your problem is intermittent, it will come back again. Bad connections and shorts usually cause an intermittent problem. Also, I forgot to mention to make sure the line that leads back to the fuel tank from the charcoal canister isn't cracked or plugged.

Thank you!! I was unaware there was a line that ran from the canister back to the tank. I'll try and find/check it soon.
