If you have an Android phone buy an Elm obd- 2 adaptor for $10 and download Torque for free. Torque pro is $5

All 1996 and up are OBD- II.

I've bought a lot of the Autels on amazon for less than $20. I give them to people as gifts.

The Autels OBD readers from Amazon are super and dirt cheap. I've owned one for years and even bought one for my son. Their far faster then the one we use at work that cost $250.

I've had this one for a couple years now.

https://www.amazon.com/Autel-MD802-M...keywords=autel

If I were to do it again I'd get their version that is the tablet/touchscreen.
https://www.amazon.com/Autel-DS808-A...ds=autel&psc=1

Both are cheap compared to the system I have for our Mercedes but that's a whole other animal...lol

The Autel gets updates and reads everything on the ranger no problem.

I've found in the past that is true, but that one is cheaper than the ones I researched years ago!

----------

That 200 dollar one I'm talking about, not that 800 dollar one Lol!
Still, 200 bucks is 10 times the cost of those elm adapters

Here's a perspective to consider.

When or if you consider the "opportunities" to make money off having such a tool.. $200-800 is nothing. Why do you think most dealerships charge over a $100 for electrical and troubleshooting? got to pay for those tools some how to earn a living, and when they go down, or break, outdated software/firmware.., replace them..

Time is the only commodity we can never gain back.. Unless you know something about microsoft points I dont know.. Same thing I tell any woman. If I am giving you my time, I am literally giving you my life, dont waste it.

Whats your time worth? Still $10 hr? $35hr? $24,000 a year? $100k a year?

Yep so true. On our Mercedes I paid $1200 for code reading software so that I am able to read the proprietary software/systems in the car and can also code different things. IE: Change halogen headlights to bi-xenon gotta code the car. Want the passenger mirrors to fold in after you replace the motors from non folding. Code the car. Want to unlock certain things like flashing brake lights/or emergency lights during emergency braking...code the car.

That $1200 I spent for a clone, has saved and made that much back to me from going to a dealer that would charge me at a minimum $100 to plug in and change setting each time.
