Default Help with TPS signal

testing the NEW TPS from my Ranger 2,3 93, have the 5v reference ok but the signal starts from 2,9v to 5v. As for the ground, when testing with the red probe on the battery and the black on the ground terminal it shows the full 12 v. But if I test for any voltage in the ground TPS connector terminal, it shows 3v, is this normal? (black probe on neg terminal, red on ground cable of TPS connector)
This 3v are there with the TPS connected or not.

Any comments will be of help, can do anything on carbureted engines but this is new for me.

Thanks for the info, already went by all that testing but seems to be a problem with the wiring or computer, will try to change it to test.

Lets step back.

You are testing a " New Throttle Position sensor " right?

What brand DVOM are you using? has it been confirmed that the meter is working properly?

What brand sensor are you using?

Why did you replace the sensor?

Did a check engine light and a code for the TPS cause you to replace it?

Did you test the original sensor and find it to be defective?

Did your test results change from the old sensor to the new sensor?

Normally when I come across a suspect TPS, I probe the output wire that should be under or around one volt then manually operate the throttle which should go up to or close to 5 volts.

If I notice the TPS voltage drop or act erratic while performing the sweep I replace and adjust the TPS. sometimes it takes a sensitive lab scope to detect a fault in the sweep.

My guess is you were doing this test or some variation of it.

If I understand you correctly, the wire you think is the output wire to the computer is reading 3 volts without being connected to the TPS.

If this is the case let us know.

If I remember correctly you have a 3 wire TPS normally one wire is a ground one is a 5 volt and the other is the signal wire to the computer.

Again going by fuzzy memory the middle wire should be the signal wire to the computer. is this what you are finding?

BTW did you check this new TPS plugged in but unbolted to the engine?
