Default Power Window Master Switch

Hey everyone... appreciate your time reading my post.
After years of driving VW Golf's and Jetta's, two weeks ago I got my first truck, and I love my new (to me) Ranger.

Anyway, yesterday my power window master switch just stopped working all together. Here are the details and what I've tried.

1. Drivers side and passengers side windows cannot be moved up or down from the master switch.
2. Passenger side window works fine from the passenger side switch.
3. I'm getting power to the connector to the master switch.
4. Wires and fuses look fine.
5. Power locks and mirrors work fine from the master.
6. Tried swapping another switch (from the scrap yard so question mark if it was any good) and that did't work.
7. Tried cleaning the original switch.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

SZ

You got a good ground at pin 2 (black/blue wire) at the master switch?

Hey Anthony,
Thanks for your time with this.
Ground I don't know how to check for. Above my knowledge grade for electrical.

I've got a multimeter as well as a simple probe that checks for power. I used the latter to see if I was getting power to the connector.
Could you walk me through the steps to check for ground?

If it's a test light then you just put your clamp on the positive battery terminal, then if you touch a good ground the light comes on.

For a multimeter set it to check resistance and connect one end to ground and the other to the pin. If you have 0 resistance then you have a good ground as it is saying you have good continuity. Some multimeters also have a continuity mode (usually had a diode symbol) this will usually give a beep if there is continuity.

Perfect. I'll use my test light and check right now.
From the link you sent it looks like the Blk/Blu wire is pin 2/ground.

Just checked. And it appears to be a good ground. I got a bright green light from my test light.
Now, when I was doing the initial test for power, with the clamp attached to just the door hinge, the light was coming on the tester for both the power and ground wires. Don't know if that tells you anything.

What test light do you have? It may have a built in continuity tester. Got a model number?

It's an Innova 3410 Test Light

----------

It's bizarre that voltage would be present on a ground wire... no?

That test says it's got two lights green for ground and red for voltage. You get different colors the first time you did it?

Yep, when I connected the clamp initially to the door hinge as a ground (don't know if it's the best ground but here we are) I got a red light when the probe hit the ground wire.
Then when I attached the clamp to the positive terminal, I got a green light at the ground wire.

Do the test again clamping to the hinge and try that wire again.

Then disconnect the switch and see if it stays lit (if it does)

Just did the test again to the ground wire and no light. And am now getting no light on the power wire.
Don't know if I did these tests wrong the first time but that seems to be the case.
I'm thinking a door jam break with no power...? Thoughts?
