Default What is this??? Unpredictable starting issues.

Greetings,
I have not visited this forum for quite awhile because I have not had any issues with my '96 Ranger so far that I have not been able to solve and or fix but...
While trying to troubleshoot random no starts that I have been experiencing recently and during the process of replacing the solenoid, starter, ignition switch, battery along with bypassing the neutral safety switch, I came across this thing mounted right beside the solenoid.

From a different angle.

I was wondering if it could be causing my problem, if I just knew what it was?
Now my uneducated guess would be some sort of aftermarket alarm system installed from the previous owner?
I thought that others more knowledgeable than myself might know of or have seen something like this before.
Any help would be appreciated as I still have not been able to determine what is causing my random "no starts."

Dang I have never seen anything like that before, initially looked like an amp but closer look and it resembles a prop on a sci-fi movie.

Take it out and see if there is any model or brand info on it.

Yes, when I first saw it I thought it was in fact none other than the flux capacitor and that since it was hooked up and working I would be able to go back to the future but so far I am still stuck here in the present and trying to figure out why my trusty ol' Ranger sometimes does not want to start.

Good idea, I think that is exactly what I will do tomorrow when I get home from work. (if my trusty Ol' Ranger starts that is)

Might be an electronic rust control module.
