Question Turn Signals and Hazards stopped working all of the sudden. Suggestions?

Hey fellow ranger lovers. I have a 2003 ranger/tremor package. My daughter was just just playing with my wipers (which is on the same control switch as the turn signals), then about an hour later, I went to leave, and now I have no turn signals or hazard lights. The dash arrows do nothing when use my turn signals, or hazard lights. All that I have done is checked the fuse, and that was fine. I figured that I would have some indicator of a bulb being out via the dash arrow's (staying on, or clicking fast). Plus, I have nothing when I turn it on going either way, or with hazards. I have walked around, just to make sure that it wasnt just the dash arrows, and it is not. I do still have windshield wipers, and washer. Does anyone know if maybe there was an update on the multi-function switch (I think that is what the turn signal/wiper switch is called)? They are only about 50$, but if there is an easier fix, I would love to know.
Thanks for taking your time to read this, and at least try to help me out here.

Ok, it was a long day. Checked the hazard/turn signal relay/flasher. It looked ok, but I went ahead and replaced it. Nothing, still, but, it helped me to keep going. I didnt think that I could get to the relay box without taking off the bottom trim piece, and metal shield behind that, so I took them both out, along with the bottom piece of the steering column cover (for some dumb reason). I must have moved the steering column cover just right because then I had all hazards, except the front driver side. I replaced the bulb, but still nothing. I was getting pretty confused at this point. I decided to take the rest of the steering column cover (the top piece) off, and I noticed that all the sudden, everything worked! There was the problem. The actual turn signal/wiper control lever has 3 (i think there were 3) separate harness plugs that go into it, one on the top, on on the bottom, and a small one on the side. I noticed that the clips that hold the top one into the main lever/multi-function swith were broke in 2. I pulled out the harness, and one wire was pulled out and no longer secured into the harness plug (the white wire with a blue stripe), so I pushed it back in, and plugged the harness back in, and viola! I decided that it would be hell trying to track down just that harness plug, and and then crimp the wires into a new one, so a bunch of black tape will have to suffice for now. It works great, and I hope that someone who has this same problem (because im sure someone else will) will read this, and save their self some time. It took a while, but I did find the problem. I will try to not use the tilt wheel lever anymore, because that would put a little strain on a non secure wire, and possibly pull that wire back out.

Thanks for the flasher suggestion, however, because I would still not have found the real problem, had I not started there.

if your worried about the wire coming back off you can use a small dab of clear silcone caulk... the clear caulk is non conductive and it will help to hold the wire in place... I had my brake switch wires come loose and what I did was found a piece of wire with the same type of connector end to it and pryed out the wire left on the donor piece and I cut old wire back about 1/4 inch and clamped new connector on... pushed wire back into the plug and put a dab of clear silcone caulk to help hold in place so it would not pull out on me again... as matter in fact my father in law still drives my old f150...

Unhappy Re: Turn Signals and Hazards stopped working all of the sudden. Suggestions?

My 96 turn signals & flashers also stopped work just this week. I pulled the cover off the colum looking for bad wires. They were fine. I removed the switch and took it apart. I was surprised that it wasn't rivitted together. The conntacts were very green & dirty. I cleaned them up and put it all back together. It didn't fix the problem.

I'm thinking about replacing the switch anyway & replacing the flasher with the one for towing.

Any other ideas?

Well, tonight after checking fuzes & bulbs, I replaced the turn signal switch and flasher. No help!

I'm outta ideas and things to check. I guess I'll start looking for the last place the power is coming to the switch.

Crap, I hate working under the dash!

Gr8 news! This morning I decided to take one more look at the fuzes. Sure enough #21 was bad! The gap was so small I missed it the first time.

I didn't have a 15 so I used a 10. I'll pick up a fuze at lunch or on the way home.

It's fixed, Wa Whooooo!

Check the fuse. It could have blown.

negate that. Missed the earlier part of the thread.

So glad I found this post! The manual said fuse "10" controlled turned signals but after checking #21 sure enough it was bad. I only had 7.5a and 20a on hand so I ended up quickly burning out the 7.5 but the 20a fixed the hazards and turn signals. Now I'm off to buy some more fuses!

Thanks!
