Default Door Ajar driving me crazy

I have only owned this truck for about a month, the door ajar light is popping on every time I hit a bump in the rode. if I pull on the passenger side door the light will go out..... ok its the switch. after spending about 2 hrs trying to replace the switch, without luck, i decided to install the new switch onto the harness and tape it to the door frame. should be good, right? wrong. I still get the door ajar when hitting bumps. if I pull on the door, the light will go out and turn back on with the next bump.

I need HELP!

is there some way to turn off/disconnect the door ajar signal? I still want my drive side door to tell me if the lights are on or the key is still in the ignition.

Any help would be appreciated:-)

I had the same problem on my Mazda. There is a catch at the bottom of the rear doors that needs to be engaged; once you shut the rear door, pull on the door near the bottom and make sure it is closed. Drove me crazy until I realized what was happening.

Good luck.

I have the passenger side door latch unplugged. so the issue has to be the wiring. is there a relay I can pull? and where is it? the strange thing is with the switch not wired, then the door ajar comes on, if I pull on the passenger door, the ajar light will go off until the next bump in the rode.

No the signal goes to the gem module which i believe for 03 is built into the smart junction box in the passenger foot well

What year and what cab configuration? If it's a door and a half, then it's most likely a bad rear bottom door latch. That or it needs a good wd-40 spray down.

with the main passenger door switch attached to the harness and taped to the door. I now realize if I open the main massenger door the inside light will not come on as I expected but when I open the passenger half door the dome light comes on. there has to be a door ajar switch in the half door, right? my next task is to tear into the rear door to investigate. Nobody ever mentioned a rear door switch.

I had to tighten the bottom latch on the passenger rear door to make mine stop doing it. To tighten it, move it out from the interior. In my case it didn't take much movement at all, and since I couldn't loosen the bolts, I just smacked it a few times with a hammer. Haven't had a problem since

To OP.......the way your vehicle is wired is that the switches in each door ground when the door is open and thus, complete the circuit for interior lighting and the door ajar indicator, turning on the lights. If you want to disable this feature from the rear doors and thus, any stray interior lights/door ajar light, you can do this with minimal effort, and the result will be fully reversible.

What you do is, study the schematics for the interior lighting circuit, identify which wire serves the circut (it's color and circuit number), then look at the pinout for the connector under drivers seat then under the carpet. Remove the seat, remove the sill plate, lift up the carpet and you will see the rectangular connector. Now, knowing what wire you wish to sever, you can snip it with a wire cutter and tape the ends (sloppy) or disconnect the connector, remove the red pin retainer from the from the connector section that serves the rear cab wiring harness, extract the pin/wire from the connector that serves the subject circuit, put it all back together, and you're done. End of switch issues for rear doors.

To tighten the door, wouldn't moving the latch inwards toward the interior tighten it?

I thought the same way, but by moving it out it got rid of the door rattling like it wasn't quite closed. I moved it in at first and that just made it even worse
