Default 2006 Ranger battery drian after a few days

I wasn't going to ask but, I hit a wall in the process of repairing this. I bought my 2006 Ranger about 4-5 months ago and had to get jump started several times after it sat for 4 or more days. The battery had less the a month on it's warranty so I figured that was the problem because the alternator was charging it at 14 volts. Got a new one from Walmart, yeah I know. After about 4-5 days of it sitting still it went dead, down to about 6 volt. Recharged it over night with a 10 amp trickle charger, check the voltage and it was around 13.5 V. Did a amp drain test and found there was 0.40 amp pull. Went through some fuses I suspected, radio, etc. and found that #29 10amp fuse for the cigar lighter/diagnostic plug OBDII was pulling about 0.30amp. I let it sit for about an hour and it still was pulling 0.10amp from something. Now the truck had been sitting without running or key in ignition for about 24 hours and I never opened the door with the battery connected, also the cigar lighter have never worked. These new faggled vehicles are very new to me and I'm not very certain what it suppose to be or not. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

For all those who are interested......don't all raise your hands at once now.
I took the Ranger into a good reputable auto electrician just because I'm no longer able to tackle this sort of thing on my own anymore.
After he inpected it he found it to be drawing .17 ml amps and not what I found of .40 - .38. Somthing to do with computer memory he said but, as you know .17 is still too high. So after pulling the center bezel and the glove box he found TWO tracking devices and they were the culprits, so he pulled both fuses to them and it took care of it.
I then contact the dealer that I purchased it off of and he denied having two in it but, confessed to one. I don't know how anyone else feels about this sort of dealer practice but, I'm not too happy about it, so both are disconnected and staying that way. I'm too old, cripple and wise to run out on my responsibilities. He'll get paid and I'll own a truck, plain and simple.
And to the one kind fellow who contacted me here to help, it wasn't the BSR but, I thank you sir for taking the time to try and help me in this situation.

Just one question, WHY would the Dealer put a Tracker in your truck in the first place? Any chance you could post a pic of what you found? Thanks, just curious.

I'm guessing the "dealer" was actually more like a "buy here, pay here" type place.....

and it's probably one of those autotrax things. If you don't make your payment they can shut the car off

So IF/when you miss a payment they know exactly where the vehicle is and repo it. You can bet because there are two it was once sold by another "dealer"

I did not pull the trackers, the mechanic just disabled them and I have no photos.
The one that the dealer copped to putting in does not disable the starter, it just tracks. When I pay the truck off I will personally pull both of them and smash them to smithereens, and if he doesn't like it, he can bill me, end of story.

lol.

Seems like he put it on there for a legit reason to me (to protect his asset given the loan details)...sucks there was already another one so they drained the battery.

When you pay it off hell!

This is unethical business. Remove and destroy them now. Store them in separate Baggies.

If he contacts you, carry both Baggies and tell him he may have his.

sure it might be "unethical" but it isn't uncommon when you buy a vehicle from a non reputable dealership. Most people who do have absolutely crappy credit so the risk is they will stop making the payments. A lot of the time these shady dealerships self finance the vehicles, so the instant you miss a payment they come get the vehicle and sell it to the next poor sap who comes in to buy it. If this vehicle has two trackers it appears its probably been repo'd at least once.

Exactly.

This might not be the situation in this specific case...but, for the vast majority of the borderline "predatory lending car lots" (AKA - low end "Buy Here, Pay Here"):

I would "be willing to bet" that among the numerous slips of paperwork signed at the time of purchase they included in a nice little authorization/release statement as part of the "credit application" that allows for the initial installation & usage of this "asset protection device" for the duration of the loan.

I wouldn't take that bet, given that stalking and gathering info on people is a big deal these days, and an even bigger one when done without their permission. I've heard that cars with the *shark fin* on the roof and GPS/nav systems can not only be located but can be shut down if the unit is financed and the buyer doesn't make a payment. This feature, coming new on the car and it being sold from an *ethical*, brand name dealer (ethical = a relative term, depending on the damage done).

Any knowledge on this? Because, not all of us need to make monthly payments on new cars, and the idea of someone still being able to track/shut down the vehicle, if they want to, is not a pleasant one.
