Default Power at inertia switch - no power at Fuel pump

Hi all,

I just bought a 2000 Ranger 2.5 L Manual. I have a bugger of an issue though and I have not found a suitable solution on the forum so far. Fuel pump went out three weeks ago. I replaced it and it drove for a week and then the truck would not start again. I hadn't replaced the filter or the pump screen so I thought maybe I had burnt up the old pump already.

I replaced the relay, pump, filter, and screen - still no start. The pump isn't priming, so it's not getting power.

The relay is getting power. If I jump it with a paper clip, the inertia switch is getting full power. If I jump the inertia switch, still no power to the fuel pump (black and pink wire, correct?).

Can you help me figure out what might be going on? I'm at my wits end. A wiring diagram would be amazing. Ideas on troubleshooting would be exceptional too.

Thank you

Here is the best site for complete diagrams to your specific truck.

Go to www.bbbind.com .

Select TSB Database, then Wiring Diagrams. Enter your truck info. From there you can choose what Category you need. It's all there, including wire colors to help you trace problems.

Thanks!

Turns out it was a previous owner's hack job at the point where the wires turn into the cab (under the driver's seat). Any ideas on how to protect that area? Mine was just wound in a few layers of electrical tape...

Wire loom is pretty good.

Heat shrinking the area is also a good layer of protection.

Thanks. I am planning on crimping and shrink wrapping... currently only have a wire nut and electrical tape because it was all I had.

I have added the wiring diagram websites to my notes. Thank you all for you replies.
